B&T Manufacturing joins the growing “prefab” construction trend with the opening of its new facility, designed to produce modular bathroom pods for use in large-scale commercial developments. A bathroom “pod” is a complete restroom unit, fabricated on the factory floor for later transportation to building sites, where the pods are “plugged in” to existing electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. The modular approach provides significant savings in time and money, as well as a high level of quality control.
Although still relatively new to the U.S. building industry, modular construction has been used for years in Asia and Europe thanks to its convenience, cost savings and environmental advantages (such as reduced waste). “We feel the market is wide open,” Torpey said of the growing interest in modular building, noting that B&T has already been approached about larger projects. The company is exploring the possibility of manufacturing kitchen pods, as well as vacation cabins or larger dwellings. “I would like to see two-and-a-half years down the road that we’re the premiere modular provider in the midwest,” said Torpey.
Founded in 2015, B&T Manufacturing is comprised of co-founders Tim Torpey and Paul Barnett. For more information on B&T and bathroom pods, please call Barnett at (605) 877-4524.
